Biography

Joël Rigal, pianist and conductor. Graduate, Aix en Provence and Marseilles Conservatories. "Master Degree, musicology, University of Paris-Sorbonne". Piano and fortepiano studies with Pierre Barbizet, Eric Heidsieck, Jörg Demus and Paul Badura-Skoda in Vienna. Profoundly shaped by the instruction of the latter (to whom he became master-class assistant) he often performed at his side Mozart and Schubert. Joël Rigal also share a passion for antique pianos and love to play on instruments from his own collection.He regularly permorfed in Paris (Salle Gaveau, TMP Châtelet, Comédie des Champs-Elysées), for several festivals (Senlis, Musique en Aix, Piano à Riom...), abroad (England,Germany,The Netherlands, Hungary, Egypt, U.S.A...) and with the orchestras of Auvergne, Monte-Carlo Philharmonic, chamber orchestra of Budapest...). Joël Rigal often recorded for radio (France Musique) and for several TV channels (including CNN for the inauguration of the instrumental museum of Cité de la Musique in Paris!), he has authored a book about the art of playing piano duo ("Le clavier bien partagé",Ed. Leduc), has performed the complete Mozart works for four hands and two pianos, including the two concertos for two pianists KV 365 and 242, sometimes conducting from the keyboard. He has recorded  alone and with the pianists Nadine Palmier and Anne-Marie Ghirardelli a significant discography from Haydn to contemporaneous music (which includes the complete works of Mozart for two pianists on period instruments for Arion, D.P.V and Frémeaux & Associés) and many works by Schubert.
